ADSL Filters
FAQs
An ADSL microfilter (also called an ADSL splitter) is a small device that separates voice and broadband (ADSL) signals on a single telephone line. It prevents interference between your telephone, fax, or alarm system and your ADSL modem or router, ensuring clear voice calls and stable internet connectivity.
Yes. If multiple devices share the same phone line, each device must have its own microfilter. For example, you’ll need one for each connected telephone, fax, or Sky box, and one for the socket connected to your router. Without filters, you may experience noise on phone calls or broadband connection drops.
Installation is quick and simple:
- Plug the microfilter directly into your wall telephone socket.
- Connect your ADSL modem/router to the broadband port (usually marked DSL).
- Plug your telephone or fax into the phone port.
- Repeat this for every phone socket in use.
Ensure the filter is connected before any extension leads or splitters for best performance.
Common signs include:
- Crackling or noise on phone calls.
- Frequent broadband disconnections or slow speeds.
- Inconsistent sync light on your modem/router.
If these issues appear, try replacing the filter, they can degrade over time due to line surges or prolonged use. Always choose a high quality, CE-approved filter for consistent performance.
